You may be wondering: "What are the benefits to joining a guild, rather than just joining a party or playing with friends?"
Well, curious man-thing, I'll explain it to you. "A guild is a group of players with a common theme or goal."(Spawnboard, 1:3-4) In itself, a guild is a kind of free-to roam shape/ blob, and it's difficult to pin down exactly what it is and does. They could be faction-based guilds, who focus on exploring, building, and fighting together. There could be trade guilds, for things like cooking, mining, and farming. However, all of these guild types have their players share a guild hall. Guild halls serve the function of information, gathering, and even housing to its members.
The important thing about the guild halls is that they receive a button warp, accessible through the white-sailed frigate in the harbor.
Now, we're not the big bad bosses of how your guild will work. It could have this massively complex system, and we'd be perfectly fine with it. However, we do have some tips on what you could do to make your guild keep its members happy and gain new members.
- Advertising is everything. You won't get your name out there without... Well... Getting your name out there. Speak up, in chat! I'm sure many players will be glad to hear you.
- Spruce up your guildhall! Make it look nice, impressive, and professional. Players like to join guilds with master craftsmen of leaders.
- Be friendly, kind, and inviting to newbies. That's a given.
- Don't be aggressive with other guilds. Not everybody likes an argument, and we may have to mute some of you, for it.
- Use the social network to your advantage. It's there for a reason, after all. Why not take the time to /s friend or /s relationship request some of the members in your guild?
- Give people reasons to stay in your guild. Whether it be promises of cash, cooperativity with surviving, shared supplies or resources.
- Make a theme for your guild. Whether you have colored banners,
flags, or building patterns, it helps to make your guild look unique.
